One of your best essays, but I wish you didn't have to write it. Brought tears to my eyes since, at our Polish Easter breakfast (the food basket was blessed in church the day before) we would always have food without worry. May you and your family be blessed this Easter season. See you on July 14! Love, Cathy
This took me back to beautiful family Easters from long ago. Your memories always make me smile and I appreciate your observations about the current state of affairs.
Thank you so much for this beautiful and truthful post. Many of your memories are the same as mine. Easter eggs, and chocolate bunnies, and jelly beans and yellow chicks. What joy those memories bring. Along with the glorious meaning of the day were the hats, and Mary Janes and for me , always a yellow dress. I am deeply saddened by what is happening in this country, we are outcasts . The rich get richer and could care less about what happens to anyone else. I will cherish the memories of the wonderful life that I have had and how this country used to be. Wishing you and your family a glorious Easter, and keep speaking out!! xo
Yes! Only those of us growing up as Catholic Italian Americans can appreciate how special holidays like Easter were so special and full of traditions!! I was the only girl (with two brothers) but mom would make my Easter dress and she, too, had beautiful baskets for us to use year after year. It pains me to think people would actually paint potatoes instead of eggs this year!! Aack. Thanks for yet another lovely essay -- you are the best. Love. you!! xoxo - Deb
Irish Catholic family here, but so much the same. My legs are cold from the Easter dresses in the photo! Oh, how well I remember the determination to not be cold because it was spring, damnit, even while my legs were numb and would be chapped for a week.
