The Dogwood Garden Club Mimosa
From Cooking With My Sisters, co-written by Adriana Trigiani and Mary Yolanda Trigiani
When the weather gets balmy, or downright swampy, I think of my mother, her garden club and their delicious recipes to cool us down in the summer heat. My mother often wore caftans and muumuus. Her jet black hair was parted in the center and pulled into a chignon. Big hoop earrings. Lots of bangle bracelets. Chic.
My mom loved a signature cocktail. To my knowledge, I grew up in dry country (minus our basement wine cellar and dad’s bar and the ABC store in downtown Big Stone Gap). We call this recipe “The Dogwood Garden Club Mimosa” from Cooking With My Sisters because of the mimosa trees that graced our yards- in hues of soft pink and green. Very garden clubby. Very Virginian. Very much my mother.
