Happy Fourth of July! I hope you are celebrating the holiday with family and friends and a good book. You won’t be worse for the wear if you make yourself a Negroni. We love a summer cocktail. My grandmother Viola perfected her signature cocktail- The Fuzzy Navel. It’s a classic because she was! (See recipes below!)
This week, I got an early blast of holiday fever on a trip down to Lake Como, New Jersey—the setting of my new novel, The View from Lake Como (everywhere on July 8th!). There is nothing like a summer day on the Jersey Shore— the ocean was foamy and blue, Lake Como was dazzling, with lily pads in full bloom along the shore, the sun blazing overhead. The town was buzzing: bikers, gardeners, surfers…readers! I was graciously welcomed in Lake Como by Mayor Kevin Higgins. Our gathering on the Lake was coordinated by one of my cherished readers and Lake Como Councilwoman, Hawley Scull. Let’s just say we felt at home!
After we were introduced, the conversation turned personal- it meant a lot to the folks of Lake Como that their home is being celebrated in a novel. I was gifted a gorgeous painting by Diane Cuddy, who created a series of sunrises on a canvas- I will cherish it!
It really meant something to me to visit the place where the story began- it’s one thing to visit and conduct research, and it’s another to meet the folks who live on the lake. I hope we hit the grace notes in the novel, that include the beauty of the people and their cherished family stories. After all, these are the people who inspired me to choose Lake Como, New Jersey as the backdrop for Jess Baratta’s journey in The View from Lake Como… as my daughter would say, we caught the vibes. I wanted to get the story of a marble draftsman trying to get out of her parents’ basement and out into the world on her own terms- just right. The setting is key to unlocking character- where we live says everything about us- while who we surround ourselves with says even more.

We look forward to seeing you on the road very soon. If you haven’t gotten your tickets to the Lake Como Show yet, please check in at adrianatrigiani.com for available dates.
